NE Oregon offer some of the most diverse and beautiful landscapes in the Northwest. Amazing granite mountains (nicknamed the Alps of America), the deepest canyon in North America, Oregon's largest grass land, wildlife (eagles, birds of prey, mountain goats), historic barns galore, ghost towns, abandoned mining towns, scenes vistas, the list goes on and on. A true paradise for photographers.

You will learn to see more creatively through your camera, and how to use the camera as a tool. You will be given opportunities to experiment with composition, how to choose the right lens, and the importance how shutter speed and aperture affect an image and are used for creative effects. Most importantly, you will discover the different properties of natural light and how it affects your photographs.

Due to the remote nature of this workshop, participants should bring water and food.

I have been going to the Wallowas since the mid 1970's and have been leading workshops in the area since 2009. The Wallowas are a unique and beautiful place that I believe everyone should experience.

For 2017, I've planned this workshop during a time of moonless nights which means we'll have the potential for some amazing star photography from an area with little to no light pollution. I have led many astro photography workshops and I'll to guide you through the challenges of shooting in the dark. Certain equipment is required for this astro photography. See "What to Bring".

Physical requirements for this workshop is rated as EASY. We will drive to every photography venue during the workshop and shoot from those locations. You can walk as much or little as you like. The Hell's Canyon Visitor's Center has hiking trials along the Snake River. Hiking will be optional there.

In order to provide each student tailored and individual attention, the workshop will be limited to 8 participants. A waiting list will be available.

Joseph, the best little town in Oregon. Just ask the locals! Often referred to as the "Little Switzerland of America", Joseph is a one-of-a-kind place rich in agriculture and history, nestled among some of the most outstanding geography you'll ever see, topped off by the breathtaking Wallowa mountain range of northeast Oregon.

Oregon's largest privately owned nature sanctuary lies within the Zumwalt Prairie, North America's largest remaining grassland of its type.

Flora was platted on April 7, 1897. By 1910, it had a population of 200 residents and an eight-room school. It is considered "the most substantial town to fail" in the Northeast Oregon region. The community was named after the daughter of the first postmaster, A. D. Buzzard. Flora post office operated from 1890-1966. The Flora School, built in 1915, is on the National Register of Historic Places. Now known as the Flora School Education Center, the schoolhouse has been restored as a pioneer arts education center.

The name Imnaha means "land ruled over by Imna"; Imna was a local Native American sub-chief. The post office in Imnaha opened January 4, 1885, but the town-site was not established until 1901; it was platted in 1902. Imnaha is the easternmost settlement in the state of Oregon.

Halfway, population 337 (which officially changed it's name to Half.com during the dot-com boom of the late 90's) is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and photographers. The town is located "halfway" between the communities of Pine and Cornucopia.

Gold was discovered in Cornucopia in 1884. It is said its gold ore was so rich nuggets would literally fall out the rock. Cornucopia has a meaning denoting wealth and plenty and the town was given its name by early miners who came from Cornucopia, Nevada. By contrast to other mining towns of the 80s and 90s, Cornucopia was somewhat orderly as it had few shootings and killings during its brief history. Many of its original buildings still stand despite the severe winters.

Hells Canyon, North America's deepest river gorge, encompasses a vast and remote region with dramatic changes in elevation, terrain, climate and vegetation. Carved by the great Snake River, Hells Canyon plunges more than a mile below Oregon's west rim, and 8,000 feet below snow-capped He Devil Peak of Idaho's Seven Devils Mountains.

I am a passionate photographer with a vast knowledge of landscape photography. I have lived in the Northwest my entire life. My passion for photography goes back to the early 1980's. I am the Coordinator for the Portland/Vancouver Photography Meetup Group and has led several outings and workshops throughout the Northwest. I am also an instructor in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.
