About the Workshop
|
Southern Nevada holds a wealth of spectacular scnerey and historic sites. This workshop will vist three of these sites. Gold Butte National Monument, Valley of Fire State Park and Cathedral Gorge State Park.
You will learn to see more creatively through your camera, and how to use the camera as a tool. You will be given opportunities to experiment with composition, how to choose the right lens, and the importance how shutter speed and aperture affect an image and are used for creative effects. Most importantly, you will discover the different properties of natural light and how it affects your photographs.
Due to the remote nature of this workshop, participants should bring water, food and camping supplies (a full list of suggested items will be posted in late April, 2018).
I am planning a second scouting trip to this area in April, 2018 and will provide more details regarding this workshop later that month.

Physical Requirements
|
Physical requirements for this workshop is rated as MODERATE. All of these sites will require some hiking. Most of the hikes are relatively flat and range from a few hundred feet to two or more miles. Exploration is nearly boundless in these areas, so the amount of physical effort is up to the participant.
|
Personalized Experience
|
In order to provide each student tailored and individual attention, the workshop will be limited to 6 participants. A waiting list will be available.

About Southern Nevada
|
Gold Butte covers nearly 300,000 acres of remote and rugged desert landscape in southeastern Nevada, where dramatically chiseled red sandstone, twisting canyons, and tree-clad mountains punctuate desolate stretches of the Mojave Desert. The brightly hued sandstone provides a stunning canvas for the areaÕs famously beautiful rock art, and the desert provides critical habitat.
Valley of Fire is world-renowned for its 40,000 acres of bright red Aztec sandstone outcrops nestled in gray and tan limestone, Valley of Fire State Park contains ancient, petrified trees and petroglyphs dating back more than 2,000 years. A Visitor Center provides exhibits on the geology, ecology, prehistory and history of the park and nearby region. The park also hosts an Annual Atlatl Competition in which participants test their skills with replicas of ancient spears. Open year round, the park has numerous campsites equipped with shaded tables, grills and water, as well as many intriguing trails to tempt hikers.
Cathedral Gorge is located in a long, narrow valley in southeastern Nevada, where erosion has carved dramatic and unique patterns in the soft bentonite clay. The parkÕs beauty began with explosive volcanic activity that, with each eruption, deposited layers of ash hundreds of feet thick. Great walking trails abound for exploring the cave-like formations and cathedral-like spires that are the result of geologic processes from tens of millions of years ago. A photographerÕs dream, the park offers stunning views of the scenic canyon and visitors can enjoy hiking, picnicking, camping and nature study.
